The Cincinnati Reds are seriously looking like the best team in the National League right now baseball bettors. Dust Baker’s ballclub has won four straight and six of its last seven games heading into Friday night’s important series opener against second-place St. Louis.

The Washington Nationals have won five in a row over the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates while the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins have both gone 5-1 in their last six games overall.

Lost in the Wilderness
The St. Louis Cardinals are in clear and present danger baseball bettors!

Currently in second place in the NL Central, eight games behind the division-leading Reds, the Cardinals have lost five straight and eight of its last nine heading into tonight’s 8:15 PM ET showdown against Cincinnati.

The Baltimore Orioles may want to part ways with veteran right-hander Kevin Millwood following this season. The O’s have posted a dismal 1-8 record in Millwood’s last nine starts.

The San Diego Padres may be leading the NL West by three games over second place San Francisco Giants, but the Padres had better get it together quickly after losing seven straight games heading into Friday night.

The lowly Pittsburgh Pirates have gone 1-5 in their last six games overall.

Red-Hot Hurlers
The Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz (15-5, 2.21 ERA) looks like the clear-cut staff ace for Boston right now after not allowing more than one earned run in four straight starts and six of his last seven outings overall.

Buchholz put on three straight shutout outings before allowing a single earned run the last time out – and has the look of a ‘lock’ selection heading into tonight’s home matchup against the White Sox at 7:10 PM ET. The under is 3-0 in the right-hander’s last three outings.

The Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Matt Garza (13-5, 3.53 ERA) has been absolutely ‘lights out’ over his last three starts, allowing one earned run in each of his last two outings after tossing seven shutout innings in his start prior to that.

Garza is 2-0 with a microscopic 0.83 ERA over his last three starts while tossing seven innings or more and throwing at least 100 pitches in each of his last three starts with 16 strikeouts and only six walks during the span. Matt Garza is 5-0 lifetime at Camden Yards heading into tonight’s 7:05 PM ET matchup at Baltimore.

Going the Wrong Way
The San Francisco Giants’ left-hander Barry Zito (8-10, 4.17), has allowed at least five earned runs in two of his last three starts, including a pitiful outing the last time out.

Zito lasted a career-low 3.2 innings in each of his last two starts and allowed a whopping seven earned runs on six hits of an 11-3 loss to Arizona on Saturday. Barry Zito has lost four straight starts and has not won a game since July 16, going 0-7 in his last eight starts plus one relief appearance.
