Ohio State and Boise State are the Top 2 Teams

At the college football odds in the BetUS Sportsbook, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Boise State Broncos are the Top 2 teams to bet to win this season’s BCS National Championship.
The Buckeyes and Broncos are both going off at much higher odds than chalky Alabama but that’s the only reason to like Ohio State and Boise State this season. Both the Buckeyes and Broncos bring back key pieces to their successful 2009 teams.

BCS Championship
Best Bet: Ohio State Buckeyes +600
Oh, sure, the Buckeyes sort of became a BCS laughingstock after losing to those SEC teams so many times in the past, but this might be one of the best Buckeye teams to come around in a very long time. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor is a Heisman Trophy candidate while Cameron Heyward, who had 10 tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks last season, is a candidate for defensive player of the year. As always, the Buckeyes will have a lot of speed at both RB and WR and their offensive line should be better this year because it was inexperienced last year. Then, there’s the schedule. Ohio State gets Miami, Penn State and Michigan at home. Road wins against Wisconsin and Iowa will be the key to their undefeated season, but the Buckeyes should be able to handle both the Badgers and Hawkeyes. I love the college football odds on the Buckeyes to get it done this year!
Second Best Bet: Boise State Broncos +800
Their ranked #3 in the nation to start the season meaning that if they can go undefeated during the regular season, like they did last season, then they’ll be in the BCS Championship. It’s going to be impossible to keep them out. Boise State returns quarterback Kellen Moore and an offensive line that should be better this season than last season. The defense is a question mark, but the Broncos only play two teams of note, #10 Virginia Tech on Sept. 6th and #24 Oregon State on Sept. 25th. If they can beat both of those teams, they should coast in the WAC and then play for the title in January. Also, is anybody really willing to bet against a team that has won 26 out of their last 27 games?
Worst Bet: Alabama Crimson Tide +450
I have no problem with the Crimson Tide being talked about as a potential BCS Champion for this upcoming season. What I have a problem with are the college football odds. Seriously…does anyone really believe that the Tide is going to go undefeated in the SEC in two straight years? Going undefeated is what a team is going to have to do in order to get into the BCS National Championship game this season because #3 Boise State and #6 TCU play ridiculously easy schedules. At +450, I can’t back the Tide to go undefeated this season. ‘Bama has some question marks along their offensive line. The last SEC team to be ranked #1 before the season started and that had these sort of question marks along the O-line was the Georgia Bulldogs who lost three games in 2008 and ended up playing in the Capital One Bowl. I’m not saying the Tide will lose three games this season. They’ll lose one, though, that’s for sure, against either LSU or Florida or somebody like Auburn.
Best Underdog Wager: TCU Horned Frogs +2000
The Horned Frogs play one team of note, #24 Oregon State. They’re currently ranked #6 in the AP Poll and could, like Boise State, go undefeated this season. If they do go undefeated, and they definitely bring back enough on both offense and defense to terrorize the Mountain West Conference, then there’s nothing that says TCU can’t win the BCS National Championship. At +2000 odds, they have to be considered for a wager.
Other Teams With a Shot
- Oregon State Beavers +4000 - - Seems impossible, I know, but they play Top 10 ranked TCU and Top 10 Ranked Boise State before starting their Pac-10 schedule. Maybe, they get lucky, go undefeated and then roll to a championship.
- Nebraska Cornhuskers +1400 - - Oklahoma is the favorite in the Big 12 but I’ll take a defensive-minded team over a Sam Bradford-less Sooners’ squad any day! The Cornhuskers can dominate the Big 12 this year and that would be good enough for a BCS Championship title shot.
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish +5000 - - Ha! Ha! You’re an idiot, DS…there, I wrote it for you so that you don’t have to say it! I know, I know…these guys are a huge college football odds longshot but, hey, coach Brian Kelly is a master at offensive schemes and former coach Charlie Weiss recruited well, and the schedule isn’t too difficult. Maybe?
